In the current Dazed & Confused (Jan issue) there's a photo story by Hedi Slimane, which follows his usual formula: go out to Brick Lane (or equivalent in other cities), find cool kids, then take moody black and white pictures of them, styled in a Dior Homme-ish way. It isn't exactly ground-breaking stuff any more, but we like the results, and Slimane is undoubtedly the king of all the 'indie' youth subcultures. This piece also proves he's just as good at shooting girls in his style as boys, even though he's focused less on girls in the past because of the Dior Homme thing.

Our only complaint is that Slimane seems to put all his effort into black and white photography these days, instead of designing stuff. Dior Homme under Kris van Assche has been a travesty so far: we need our Slimane clothes fix! It's got to be time for him to launch his own brand (preferably a super-pretentious one like undercoverism, which has a blank website, is only sold in 'semi-underground' stores and has no labels in the garments..)

DazedDigital - and now go and buy Dazed in the shops, like we have, so we don't get into trouble with them!

ReplyDeleteHedi Hedi...humm Well his designs did seem rather repetative after awhile. To me it all started to go downhill when Karl Lagerfeld started raving about Hedi and running around in Hedi's pants like a headless chicken. I think Hedi left at the right moment as his size triple zero look was getting saturated. Still the guy is so creative I'm sure he'll be back with a new line. Unless of course he does a Tom Ford and go into movie making. Or worse...become Marc Hysterical Jacobs!
